New Opportunities——Applications and Prospects of Liquid Silicone Rubber (LSR)

Time:2023-12-21 Preview:0

iquid silicone rubber, abbreviated as LSR, is a type of silicone with very low molecular weight, resulting in its viscous liquid state at room temperature. LSR boasts excellent high and low-temperature resistance, high elasticity, good electrical properties, and is non-toxic and environmentally friendly. These characteristics make it suitable for a variety of applications, including automotive, food, electronics, and electrical industries.

1 Advantages of Liquid Silicone Rubber

1.1 Completely Non-toxic and Odorless, More Environmentally Friendly:
LSR has a simple composition and uses a platinum-catalyzed curing system, ensuring safety and lack of odor. With very low VOC content, it meets food-grade requirements.

1.2 Excellent Optical Properties:
LSR does not yellow and has low dispersion and high light transmittance. Even after high-temperature aging, its light transmittance can still reach over 95%.

1.3 Stable Product Shape:
Before curing, LSR is in a fluid state and cures at a low temperature, resulting in low shrinkage after molding. It requires no secondary vulcanization and has no secondary dimensional shrinkage.

1.4 High Degree of Automation and More Stable Quality:
LSR does not need to be mixed and has simple post-processing, with minimal human intervention required throughout the production process from raw materials to finished products.

2 Applications of Liquid Silicone Rubber

2.1 Automotive industry

LSR's excellent electrical insulation and elasticity make it widely used in automotive circuit systems and electrical component sealing. Its outstanding optical properties also make it suitable for use in optical components like headlights.

3 Prospects of Liquid Silicone Rubber

With societal development, various industries are gradually raising their requirements for basic materials, leading to LSR evolving towards higher performance and wider applications.

3.1 Higher Environmental Standards:
As environmental requirements increase, there are more stringent demands on LSR's base materials, synthesis processes, and additives.

3.2 Higher Performance Requirements:
With the expansion of application fields and the enhancement of host functions, LSR is required to have a broader operating temperature range and higher mechanical properties. In specific fields, it also needs to possess particular properties such as thermal management capabilities, better electrical properties, and higher light transmittance.

3.3 Self-lubrication:
LSR should meet self-lubrication requirements without compromising its performance, fulfilling the installation and usage requirements of low-hardness products.

3.4 Micro-injection:
For more precise components, continuous optimization of equipment, molds, and even the materials themselves is needed to achieve milligram-level injection.
